NZ Salary Converter
Convert between annual, monthly, fortnightly, weekly, and hourly pay. See both gross and net (after tax) amounts for every period.
How Salary Conversion Works
This calculator converts your salary between different pay periods using standard NZ assumptions: 52 weeks, 26 fortnights, and 12 months per year.
The net (take-home) amounts include deductions for PAYE income tax, ACC earner's levy (1.75% for 2026-27, on earnings up to $156,641), and KiwiSaver at your selected rate. Student loan repayments are not included — use the Take-Home Pay Calculator for a full breakdown.
For hourly conversions, the calculator uses your specified hours per week (default 40 hours).

Frequently asked questions
How do I convert annual salary to hourly rate?
Divide your annual salary by 2,080 (40 hours × 52 weeks). For example, a $70,000 annual salary equals $33.65/hour. If you work different hours, divide by your actual hours × 52.
What is the difference between gross and net pay?
Gross pay is your total pay before any deductions. Net pay (take-home pay) is what you actually receive after PAYE income tax, ACC earner's levy, and KiwiSaver contributions are deducted.
How many fortnights are in a year?
There are 26 fortnights (bi-weekly pay periods) in a year. To convert a fortnightly salary to annual, multiply by 26.
How do I convert monthly salary to annual?
Multiply your monthly salary by 12. For example, a $6,250 monthly salary equals $75,000 annual ($6,250 × 12).
Is salary usually quoted gross or net in NZ?
Salary in NZ job ads and employment agreements is almost always gross — before PAYE income tax, ACC earner's levy, and KiwiSaver deductions. Use the Take-Home Pay Calculator to see your net figure.
How many working hours are in a year?
At a standard 40-hour week, there are 2,080 working hours in a year (40 × 52). At a 37.5-hour week — common in office roles — it's 1,950 hours (37.5 × 52).
